Many of the men who live at the Harlem House come to us through referral partners: treatment programs, hospitals, courts, and probation and parole. If you work with someone who needs a safe, structured place to live in early recovery, here is how referring them works.
Who the Harlem House Serves
The Harlem House is structured sober living for men 18 and older in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction. Residents often come to us from treatment, detox, a hospital, a halfway house or incarceration. Medication-assisted treatment such as Suboxone or Vivitrol is welcome when prescribed and managed by a physician licensed in Pennsylvania.
How to Make a Referral
The fastest way is to send your client to our online application. It takes about ten minutes and saves progress as they go, so they can start while still in treatment and finish later. If you would rather talk through a placement first, call us at (412) 284-4718.
A member of our team reads every application and reaches out within 24 hours. Your client then meets with the house manager, and if it is a fit, signs the resident agreement and moves in.
Working With Supervision Requirements
If a court has set a curfew, that curfew takes priority over the house curfew. We work with referral sources on any conditions or required length of stay. With your client’s signed release of information, we can coordinate with you on their progress.
What Your Client Can Expect
Residents follow a structured program: seven 12-step or other recovery meetings a week (five if working) during roughly their first six months, a sponsor, random drug testing, weekly house meetings, chores and a curfew. They are expected to work, look for work, or enroll in school or vocational training. The monthly Program Participation Fee is $600, and drug tests are $25 each. Ask us about payment arrangements.
