On September 14, 2026, Stowe Township issued a Certificate of Occupancy for the Harlem House at 82 Harlem Avenue in McKees Rocks, following a completed final inspection.
What the Certificate Means
A Certificate of Occupancy confirms that a building has been inspected and found to comply with the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code and the other codes and ordinances enforced by the local municipality. For the men who live at the Harlem House, and for the families and referral partners who trust us with them, it is an independent confirmation that the house meets the standards a safe home should meet.
We think that matters. Too much recovery housing in the Pittsburgh area operates with little oversight. From the beginning, our goal has been to run the Harlem House by the book: written policies, clear house rules, a house manager on site, and a building that passes inspection.
About the Harlem House
The Harlem House is our first recovery home: a solid brick house in McKees Rocks with room for up to nine men in shared bedrooms. It sits within walking distance of AA and NA meetings, grocery stores and bus lines, so residents can get to meetings, work and appointments without a car.
Residents follow a structured program that includes seven 12-step or other recovery meetings a week (five if working) during roughly their first six months, working with a sponsor, random drug testing, weekly house meetings, chores and a curfew. You can read the full details on our How It Works page.
Now Accepting Residents
The Harlem House is accepting residents. If you or someone you know needs a safe, structured place to live in early recovery, you can apply online in about ten minutes or call us at (412) 284-4718.
